Your specially designed excursion will include seeing St. Peter's Basilica and Square, the Vatican Museums, passing through Via Veneto and the Borghese Gardens. On this magical excursion trip you will: Drive to Rome and enter the vast expanse of St. Peter's Square, which can hold over 300,000 people, and pass through the embracing arms of Bernini's colonnades where you will arrive at St. Peter's Basilica. Learn the enormity of Christendom's largest church and see where the Pope celebrates mass, the gilded papal canopy created by Bernini in the 17th century. View one of the best known sculptures in the world - the Pieta, Michelangelo's masterpiece in white marble. Travel next to the Vatican Museums and explore the richest storehouse of art in the entire world. This excursion is available for those guests who will be cleared through customs before 11:00 AM. A minimum of 25 guests is required for this excursion to operate, a short wait may be necessary until the minimum number is reached. Please remember that to enter religious buildings, all guests need to have their shoulders and legs covered. Headphones will be provided for use inside the Vatican. The Vatican can be very busy during the summer, therefore you may experience lines. Comfortable shoes, water and a sun hat are recommended. Naples, Italy 7:00am 6:00pm Board a hydrofoil and be magically transported to a rugged coastline framed by cliffs that rise from the sea with vineyards and gardens, the island of Capri. On this extraordinary magical excursion you will: Be instantly transported to a rugged Italian coastline, framed by cliffs that rise from the sea with vineyards and gardens, the island of Capri. After a leisurely walk to the Jetfoil departure point, you will board the vessel for an approximate 45-minute ride to Capri. You will be transported by local minibuses to Anacapri, along the winding road where there are magnificent views of the island and the Gulf of Naples. Visit Villa San Michele, once home to the famous Swedish writer and physician Axel Munthe, and enjoy a few photo opportunities before going back down to Capri where lunch with wine will be served in a local restaurant. After lunch, enjoy some free time around the famous "Piazzetta"; stroll through the narrow streets; explore the shops; relax in an outdoor café; or see the sights that appeal to you. For guests wishing to visit the Augustus Gardens, your guide will be pleased to lead you. Then, proceed by funicular from Capri to Marina Grande to board the Jetfoil for the return trip to Naples. Capri can be very busy during the summer; therefore, the tour may operate in reverse order at times and you may experience lines. Thursday. Dubrovnik, Croatia 7:00am 7:00pm This is a beautiful introduction to the life of the Konavle region in Croatia and its beauty, history and local wines. On this wonderful excursion you will: Stop at the famous panoramic viewpoint above the Old City of Dubrovnik for photographs, your journey will then continue, for about an hour, through the beautiful countryside of Zupa Dubrovacka (Parish of Dubrovnik) and the picturesque villages of Kupari, Srebreno, Mlini and Plat. Upon reaching Gruda, the center of Konavle’s wine production since the Middle Ages, you will visit the local winery where you will have the opportunity to taste two of the best local wines in a scenic rustic setting. Your time spent in the winery is approximately 30 minutes. Moving onto the small village of Pridvorje, at the foot of Snjeznica Mountain, you will visit the Franciscan Monastery. Your time spent at the Monastery is approximately 45 minutes. Situated in the center of the village you will see that the entire social life of the village takes place here. Learn about the Konavle's traditions as you embark on a journey through history, observing an exhibition of traditional arts and crafts on display along with a local Croation folklore performance. Your day will be beautifully concluded as you enjoy lunch in one of Konavle's fine restaurants before returning to the ship. NOTE: Minimum age for wine tasting is 18 years. Your lunch will consist of local flavors such as fish fillet, shrimp soup, potato salad, green salad, and wine. Friday. Venice, Italy 2:00pm Glide along the canals of Venice after dinner, bathed in the glow of lighted palaces, and experience one of the most endearing pleasures - an evening gondola ride with serenading musicians. On this beautiful excursion you will: Experience Venice is best admired from the serene waters and the city provides lovely viewing, especially at night, with the moonlight reflections glistening upon the water. Depart from the ship by private launch or coach to be transferred to the closest spot to the gondola station. Once there, you will board the typical sleek, black Venetian craft, riding five/six guests per gondola, to gently glide through the canals to the sound of serenading musicians. To complete this memorable evening, a singer and musician (one duo every six/seven gondolas) will accompany you on this non-narrated trip. At the end of the gondola ride, some free time will be given for you to stroll and breathe in the amazing Venetian atmosphere as you view the local colors before returning to the ship by launch. Be enchanted by this ensemble of professional musicians comprising of a pianist, violinist, double bass player, guitarist and, last but not least, wonderful operatic singers of international acclaim whose voices resound in this fabulously acoustical concert hall. Messina, Sicily, Italy 7:00am 5:00pm Discover the landscape, flora and fauna of Sicily and make your way to the top of Mt. Etna and its Craters where you can admire the volcano in its entire spectacular charm. On this incredible excursion you will: Mount Etna’s beauty and long record of eruptions makes it one of the world’s best known and most studied volcanoes. Climb the scenic lower slopes in your motor coach, marveling at the ever changing scenery of lemon groves, orchards, vineyards, chestnut and pine woods that blend beautifully with the hardened lava and endless volcanic cones. Reaching 6,200 feet, you can visit the Silvestri Craters and see the 1983 lava flow which embraced, but did not destroy Rifugio Sapienza, along with the recent 2001 and 2002 flows too. Be allowed free time that will be given here for photographs. NOTE: Comfortable shoes are recommended for uneven ground at the Crater along with a light jacket. Barcelona, Spain 7:00am 5:00pm Discover the Costa Brava; certainly one of the most famous Spanish coasts, stretching from the north of Barcelona over the province of Girona. On this excursion you will: Take a motor coach for the one-hour journey to the hive of activity in Blanes. Here, you will board your boat, for 45 minutes, to Tossa de Mar and sail along the coastline of Costa Brava to discover its most picturesque beaches. Discover Tossa de Mar’s beautiful coastline stretches for 13 kilometers and offers something for everyone. Learn Platja Gran is the main beach at the center of the resort, in an attractive horseshoe bay dominated by the ancient defense towers on the headland. Its big, sandy beach is awash with services and water sports during the summer months. Here, you will find plenty of bars and restaurants, public restrooms, showers, and Red Cross first-aid. Find out the main center of activity is on the oceanfront, but you will also have free time to explore the old part of the town which still retains its Spanish old world charm with its winding, cobbled streets and ancient houses. Soak up Tossa de Mar’s rich culture and history while you explore the stunningly beautiful natural surroundings. Find a range of cafes and restaurants are available on the oceanfront and in the old town with plenty of shopping opportunities. NOTE: Lunch will be on your own. Some uphill walking and cobblestones will be experienced in Tossa de Mar. There may be up to three stops the boat will make along the way to pick up or drop off passengers at other beaches. Thursday. Cannes, France 9:00am 8:00pm Explore these two popular and charismatic French destinations, on your own, in one day. On this excursion you will: Board your motor coach and be transferred for an hour and a half, via the highway, to Ste. Maxime for your ferry ride to the famous and fashionable resort of St Tropez. Your guide onboard will answer any questions that you may have before your arrival to enhance your free time strolling around this charming village with its wonderful boutiques and art galleries. Alternatively, take a leisurely walk along the old harbor lined with café’s and restaurants. Next, enjoy a short drive to Port Grimaud, one of the most frequented places in France with its quays, gardens and fishermens’ houses where boats can be moored. Enjoy free time here to discover this waterside village and its marina bursting with luxury boats before reboarding your motor coach for your return journey back to the ship. Livorno, Italy 7:00am 7:00pm Spend a full day among the many great treasures of Florence and Pisa and discover why few other travel experiences can match this journey. On this exciting excursion you will: After a motor coach journey of approximately 1½ hours, your walking tour of the majestic city of Florence begins. View the outside of the red domed, 15th century Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore (Duomo), the Baptistery, famous for its carved bronze doors, and the striking Campanile Bell Tower. Continue past Piazza della Signoria, an open-air art gallery overlooked by the imposing Palazzo Vecchio. Some major Italian artists, including a copy of Michelangelo’s David, adorn this unique square with wonderful statues. Enjoy the picturesque Piazza Santa Croche where you will have an exterior view of its famous church, erected in 1296 and housing famous tombs and monuments. Take a photo opportunity at the 14th century Ponte Vecchio Bridge, lined with shops selling gold and silver. After a typical Italian lunch in a local Florence restaurant, you will make your 1.5 hour journey to Pisa where you will be guided around Miracle Square visiting the inside of the Romanesque Cathedral and the round shaped Baptistery. Enjoy a special inside visit to the striking Leaning Tower of Pisa, the most famous tower in the world, only recently opened once more. Due to its inclination and beauty, the Tower has been the object of very special attention. Don’t miss the 294-step climb to reach the top of the Tower. NOTE: The Tower of Pisa is not recommended for guests who are scared of heights. Also, children under 10 years of age are not allowed to reach the top of the Tower for security reasons. Due to the extensive itinerary of this excursion, there can be no free time in Florence. Please have your shoulders and legs covered when entering religious buildings. Saturday. Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy 8:00am Enjoy the wealth of Italian countryside and a typical local farmhouse brunch as you leave the port behind in search of tranquility and beauty. On this wonderful excursion you will: Drive along the Appian Way, one of the first ancient Roman military roads, and experience the enchanting Campagna with its rolling hills and lush farmlands dotted with farmhouses, villas and palaces. Reach the Lake of Albano, settled in the crater of an extinct volcano. Winding your way up to the top of a nearby hill, you will stop for a short stroll in the lovely medieval town of Castelgandolfo, where the Popes have kept their summer residence for centuries. In fact, Castelgandolfo’s Papal Palace and Gardens are actually part of the sovereign Vatican State. Your drive continues through the gentle hills and undulating fields of Rome’s wine growing hinterland, and here you will stop at Montegiove Farm House. Be greeted by the Count Raimondo Moncada who will introduce you to the history of his noble family, before inviting you in for an aperitif on his favorite terrace overlooking the Tyrrheanian Sea and the beaches of Anzio and Nettuno. Learn these were the theaters of the American Landing during World War II. Enjoy your brunch in the farmhouse with plenty of home-made wine from the farm before making your way to your hotel.
